Social Justice Activist Shaun King Converts to Islam
Writer and activist Shaun King and his wife Rai King recently embraced Islam. The couple took their Shahadah, a declaration of faith, on the first day of Ramadan this year.
The news came through a live stream shared on Instagram by Professor Khaled Beydoun. The video shows Shaun and Rai reciting the Shahadah with the guidance of US Muslim scholar Omar Suleiman.
Shaun King, known for his activism with the Black Lives Matter movement, was previously identified as a Christian pastor for several years.
His decision to convert to Islam reportedly came after a period of strong advocacy for Palestine. He shared numerous posts highlighting the struggles in Gaza and calling for peace in the region. Shaun also expressed frustration over a temporary social media ban he faced, which he believed was linked to his pro-Palestine stance.
